Molitor's lemon-golden colored 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) opens with a spectacular dense and intense tropical fruit aroma that becomes finer and finer and more detailed and slatey with air. This is a fascinating beauty in the making. Lively and frisky on the palate despite its richness and with a lemon flavor and firm and sustainably salty mineral grip for structure, this full-bodied WSU is a highly refined and elegant dry Auslese with an extremely stimulating finish. Although the 2019 already tastes very well, I wouldn’t drink it before it's 20 or even 30 years old, simply because the wine will become even more complex. Tasted from AP 165 20 in June 2021.

This has more weight than the majority of dry Mosel rieslings from the challenging 2021 vintage and this is married to white peach and yellow grapefruit aromas plus some white flower character. Only just beginning what will surely be a long life, expect this to expand as it slowly matures in the bottle. Wonderful harmony at the silky finish. Drink or hold.

An immediate hit of apricot and cream is quite the opening for the 2021 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese ** White Capsule. A distinct note of newer (not new) wood, lends milky hazelnut charm sitting well. With more air, the lemon speaks louder and clearer, but is still supported by that bit of cream. The palate, likewise, has that touch but shines with lemony brightness, buffered but still absolutely direct, with the tiniest inflection of apricot. The finish is squeaky clean, long and elegant.
