The 2020 Riesling Erdener Prälat Auslese *** (White Capsule) is super impressive on the deep and pure, highly concentrated, slightly minty and layered nose, with iodine, flint and very elegant slate aromas with ripe and lush stone fruit. Crystalline, refined and pristine on the palate, this is a powerful but even more energetic and tensioned Prälat with zesty lemon bitters on the enormously complex and sustainable finish that reveals very fine oak tannins. The Prälat is bone dry due to its spectacular sugar-free extract. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 6 21 in July 2022. 100/100

What fascinating aromas of anise, pistachio and bitter almond this super-ripe and super-elegant dry Mosel riesling has. And behind that is a deep well of mangosteen and yellow grapefruit aromas. The enormous structure gives this a rare degree of drive for the 2020 vintage. The intense minerality and striking bitter almond character interlock at the finish in a way that is so unique in my 40 years of tasting the wines from this region. Still tightly wound, so - exceptionally for the generally charming vintage - it needs some time to give its best. Limited production. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. 99/100
