Aged in 77% new and 23% one-year-old French oak barrels and composed of 89% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Troplong Mondot has a deep garnet-purple color and comes bursting out of the glass with bold preserved plums, Black Forest cake and Indian spices scents plus suggestions of espresso, black olives, cigar box and tilled soil. Full-bodied, rich, plushly textured and oh-so-decadent, it packs in the spiced black fruit layers and finishes with fantastic persistence.

This wine is a success for the vintage with its ripe Cabernet flavors and dark, dense tannins. It is fruity certainly, with a juicy, perfumed background. However, the structure and texture show best—firm and dry, indicating a good potential. This concentrated wine will not be ready to drink before 2024.

The very black, almost tarry nose leads you into an unusually structured and compact 2013. The generous tannins are surprisingly harmonious and this gives the wine quite a presence on the bold palate. For this vintage it’s quite a statement. Drink or hold. Château Quintus vertical tasting. SP.

Notas de Falstaff

Deep ruby, purple reflections, broad ochre rim. Notes of cassis, soft notes of cloves and tobacco, hints of prunes and figs, a hint of liquorice and white nougat. Light-footed and fresh on the palate, wild black berries, ripe integrated tannins, salty touch, can already be enjoyed. (2021 - 2035).
